Determining how much coverage you need begins with how much stuff you need to protect. Take an inventory. Here's a helpful way to think about the cost of your policy: 

• More coverage + lower deductible = higher premium 

• Less coverage + higher deductible = lower premium 

Your landlord may be insured, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re protected in the event of an accident. 

Landlord insurance covers the investment of the landlord, e.g. their property. This includes: 

• Property damage due to weather 

• Vandalism to the exterior of your home 

• Water damage in the event of a pipe burst

• Deductible: The initial amount you are responsible for before coverage kicks in. 

• Premium: The total amount that you pay for an insurance policy.
